I happened upon this hat store in North Beach, (San Francisco) on my way to grab some tea long after they’d closed for the day and found myself running to the car to grab my camera. Clearly I need to get out more because these folks have been in business for over 100 years and I just found out about them.
Their store has all of the right elements to evoke nostalgia about things that are classical, well done and a pleasure to experience. I wish every retail establishment had this much appeal.
As I was fishing around for a heading for this post, I discovered that there’s a distinction in the hat world—makers of womens’ hats are referred to as milliners while the maker of mens’ hats are called hatters. Who knew? They have a great selection of hats that are traditional but always with a contemporary twist, along with a lot of other more contemporary styles to chose from as well. I especially liked this one and the movie that it was named after.
The Goorin Bros. hat shops have 12 locations in a handful of states. Next time you’re in one of their neighborhoods, check them out! (Click here)

This was an outstanding article! Thanks! My son works for them so thanks again. (Jaimes mom)
